CAIRO - The body overseeing Egypt'spresidential election on Wednesday accepted an appeal by formerprime minister Ahmed Shafiq against his disqualification as acandidate, allowing him back into the race.
"The presidential electoral committee headed by FaroukSoltan accepts the appeal of former prime minister Ahmed Shafiq,allowing him to contest the presidential race," state newsagency MENA reported.
Shafiq was the last prime minister under autocraticpresident Hosni Mubarak, who was overthrown on Feb. 11, 2011. Hewas disqualified on Tuesday after the military council approveda new law denying political rights to anyone who served aspresident, vice president or prime minister in the decade priorto Mubarak's fall.
