Elite police to investigate graffiti against Mandelblit

The Israel Police's National Serious and International Crimes (NSIC) Unit has been ordered to launch an investigation into a threatening message spray-painted on the home of Chief Military Advocate General, Avihai Mandelblit on Thursday. The announcement of the beginning of the investigation follows increased concerns that Mandelblit could be targeted by far-right activists enraged over the recent conviction of two IDF soldiers for illegal conduct during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza.

The word "traitor" was spray painted in large black letters on a wall around Mandelblit's Petah Tikva home on Wednesday, and police and the IDF have since stepped up security around the advocate general.

The investigation was first handled by local Petah Tikva police, but the police's Operations and Intelligence Branch head Cmdr. Yoav Segalovich ordered the NSIC Unit to take over, a police source confirmed to The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.
