Environmental Protection Ministry monitors Kishon oil spil

The Environmental Protection Ministry was monitoring Wednesday an oil spill from the oil refinery in Haifa into the Kishon River. The last few days' storms caused the drainage system to overflow and the ministry allowed the refinery to empty the rainwater into the river.
However, during the course of the operation, oil was discovered flowing into the sea from the rainfall overflow containers. The ministry initiated the national emergency plan for sea-based oil spills and is monitoring the situation.
The ministry said the contamination did not seem to be too bad, but they would decide once they had fully evaluated the situation whether to open an investigation.
