Ex-US presidential hopeful Edwards indicted over affair

WASHINGTON - Former US presidential hopeful John Edwards was indicted on six counts on Friday for covering up an extramarital affair, a fall from grace for the former senator and trial lawyer who was once expected to go far in American politics.
Edwards, 57, was charged with conspiracy, illegal campaign contributions and making false statements, according to a 19-page indictment. Ahead of the expected indictment, his attorney denied any wrongdoing.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Edwards according to court records filed in US District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
