Georgia: 1 dead in blast near opposition party office

TBILISI, Georgia — Police and a Georgian opposition party say an explosion outside party offices in the country's capital has killed a neighborhood resident.

The blast near the building housing the Labor Party happened before dawn Sunday in the center of Tbilisi.

Party spokeswoman Keti Dolidze says the victim, a woman in her 50s, lived across the street from the party offices. Dolidze also says the blast broke windows and cracked walls in the party offices.

Police on Sunday said an investigation has been opened.

The Labor Party, an adamant opponent of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili, holds six seats in the country's 150-member parliament.
