Hamas declares state of emergency amid escalation

Hamas has declared a state of emergency Sunday following an escalation in violence between Israel and the Gaza strip that has seen at least 18 people killed since last Thursday, AFP reported.
"[Hamas's] interior ministry has decreed a state of emergency," AFP cited the interior ministry spokesman Ihav al-Ghussein said.
Despite Hamas's call for a cease-fire in order to prevent escalation following a violent weekend that saw at least 18 deaths, terrorist groups continue to fire dozens of projectiles into Israeli territory, prompting IDF reprisal.
According to AFP, Ghussein called on Hamas's security forces to "work 24 hours a day along with the civil defense and medical services to protect and save inhabitants from the 'Zionist occupier.'"
