IDF veterans won't be given preference in foreign service

The cabinet on Sunday failed to reach agreement concerning Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's proposal to give preference to citizen who have either served in the IDF or completed alternative civic service in admission to the Foreign Ministry's prestigious cadet course.
A severe disagreement which reportedly developed between Israel Beiteinu ministers and Labor ministers Binyamin Ben-Eliezer and Avishay Braverman prevented the bill from passing.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu instructed his office to draft a proposal calling for preferential treatment for those who have served over draft-dodgers, without affecting minorities not required by law to serve.
