IFCJ begins monthly seniors aid operation

Some 3,000 senior citizens in Israel have started receiving monthly aid from the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews including food, medicine, medical equipment and visits from volunteers this month.
As part of the initiative, which begun in 10 towns throughout the country, the seniors received NIS 300 food vouchers, distributed from door to door by some 500 of the Fellowship’s volunteers.
According to the IFCJ, within the next three years of the operation, some 35,000 seniors in 50 communities will receive aid of a total amount of $ 100 million per year.
"For many years the elderly population is experiencing neglect and disregard and 200,000 seniors in Israel live in poverty,” President of the Fellowship Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein, said in a statement.
“The goal today is to begin making a difference in the lives of tens of thousands of elderly people who are in the worst situations," he added.
