Illegal worker employed by Barak released on bail

A Filipino worker illegally employed by the wife of Defense Minister Ehud Barak was released on bail on Monday by the Interior Ministry's Oz immigration unit after being arrested on Sunday.
The arrest came following growing pressure on the authorities to resolve the case, amid public concern that the investigation was abandoned due to the involvement of Barak's wife.
The woman, known as Virginia, is suspected of overstaying her work visa by three years, and was arrested in Tel Aviv in the presence of her three-year-old son and father.
Immigration officials are due to review her case, though an immediate deportation would be illegal as she gave birth in Israel.
The Filipino national answered questions on her past work in Israel for Barak's wife, Nili Priel, who herself will be called in for questioning in the near future.
Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein has indicated that an indictment against Priel is likely.
