IMA does not accept Arbel organization as member

Arbel, the organization of renegade physicians that opposed the Israel Medical Organization’s policies in reaching an agreement with the Finance Ministry last August, will not be able to join the IMA, the doctors association decided late Thursday night.
The IMA’s central committee decided in a 46-to-eight vote against Arbel, after hearing arguments from the organization. Arbel, consisting largely of younger doctors in the center of the country, was strongly against the requirement of using time clocks. The committee said that admitting Arbel would weaken the IMA and harm its ability to struggle for better working conditions for the doctors.
IMA chairman Dr. Leonid Eidelman said that the decision was correct, as it strengthens and unifies physicians iin the public sector. "I hope that he hoped internal power struggles were over, leaving the IMA the time and energy to deal in issues facing physicians. We have many more challenges ahead," he said.
