Islamic Jihad says it's not interested in escalation

The armed Gazan movement Islamic Jihad claimed Sunday that it "did not initiate the escalation that took place and at this stage and we are not interested in escalation. The projectiles that we possess are defensive and for the means of fighting back," Palestinian news channel Ma'an reported. The group also said "The Islamic Jihad will not beg for a ceasefire from whatever party."
The movement also told Ma'an that "truce means nothing to us because we do not trust neither the occupation nor its pledges, so what we are interested in is the situation in the field."
On Sunday Ma'an reported the group's spokesperson Abu Ahmed made a similar comment, saying that the group would cease violence if "Israel fulfills its responsibility and stops attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
