Israel views N. Korean nuclear test with 'extreme gravity'

Israel released a statement Monday saying it viewed with "extreme gravity" North Korea's second nuclear test, and that Israel was a partner to the international concern over the North Korea's action. Likewise, the statement said, "Israel is concerned about North Korea's proliferation, which has negative ramifications for our region." The Foreign Ministry said it expected the international community to act "with determination" to the North Korean test, "in order to send a message to other countries." The Foreign Ministry's statement, according to diplomatic sources, was carefully crafted and coordinated with various governmental bodies. Although it was clear where Israel stood on the issue, and equally clear that the North Koreans would pay little heed to what Israel had to say on this matter, it was important for Israel's voice to be heard along with the rest of the world.
