Israel's fire response time almost 3 times slower than US

Fire and Rescue Commissioner Shahar Ayalon said Tuesday that Israel's emergency services have a response time of 14 minutes. This is compared to foreign services with considerably faster response times, such as those in the United States (four to five minutes) and Europe (seven to eight minutes).
"One of our most basic goals concerning arrival at emergencies is reducing response time. The Carmel Fire, as well as other fires, could be extinguished with a cup of water when they're small," he said.
His comments came ahead of the one-year anniversary of the 2010 Carmel Fire, which claimed 44 lives.
