Ithaka Group head Shai Abramov commits suicide in jail

A man suspected of heading a group that physically abused children as an educational method committed suicide in his holding cell Friday night.
Shai Abramov, who allegedly led the ''Ithaka Group,' hanged himself at Hadarim Prison as two cellmates slept in their bunks. Police were investigating, but authorities said Abramov had not been assessed as being a danger to himself.
The Ramle Magistrate’s Court on Thursday extended Abramov's remand by seven days due to suspicions that he physically abused the children of parents who sought out his assistance, and teaching these parents to use the same violence as part of a system of “extreme discipline.”
