Jordan's King Abdullah meets Hamas's Mashaal in Amman

Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal met with King Abdullah II in Amman on Sunday in his first visit to Jordan in thirteen years.
According to Palestinian news agency Ma'an, Mashaal and Qatari crown prince Tamim bin Hamad al Thani were greeted at the airport by Jordanian crown prince Hussein Ben Abdullah. They then met King Abdullah at Raghadan Palace in Amman before being joined by a Hamas delegation.
Relations between Hamas and Jordan deteriorated in 1999 when King Hussein closed the movement’s offices in Amman and expelled Mashaal and some of his top aides.
It is not clear at this stage if the Jordanians will give back to Mashaal his Jordanian passport. Nor is it clear whether Mashaal will be permitted to reside in Jordan or even move his headquarters to Amman from Damascus.
