Knesset plenum expected to vote on Lapid bills

Two bills that would require a cooling off-period for journalists before they enter politics will come to a preliminary vote in the Knesset plenum on Wednesday.
A bill submitted by MK Ronit Tirosh (Kadima) would institute a six-month cooling-off period, while one submitted by MK Carmel Shama (Likud) would set a cooling-off period of an entire year.
The ministerial committee on legislation decided on Sunday to allow coalition MKs to vote their conscience on the bills, which are seen as an attempt to preempt a jump to politics by Channel 2 and Yediot Aharonot journalist Yair Lapid, who is the son of former Shinui leader Yosef (Tommy) Lapid.
