Lebanon postpones talks on new government

BEIRUT — The office of Lebanon's president announced Monday that talks to form a new government have been postponed for a week.

The two-day consultations had been scheduled to begin Monday after Hizbullah and its allies quit the Western-backed government last week, forcing it to collapse.

The crisis stems from tensions over a UN tribunal investigating the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

President Michel Suleiman's office said he delayed Monday's talks to best serve the "national interest." An international summit is being held in Syria on Monday on the crisis.
