Liberman: No planning reform if it ignores middle class

Army Radio reported on Monday that the proposed amendment to the Planning and Building Law relating to the Trachtenberg Report reforms will not be submitted to the Knesset Internal Affairs Committee at this time, because Yisrael Beitenu is threatening to vote against it until the current affordable housing criteria set by Minister of Housing and Construction Ariel Atias of Shas are canceled. Yisrael Beitenu is also demanding adding a minimum level of earning capacity to the criteria.

Yisrael Beitenu chairman and Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman, told Arm Radio that he will vote against the reform in the Knesset. "We are fighting a war for the middle class, which serves in the army and works hard to earn a living. There is an oppressed class that is discriminated against, and it is the middle class. It is unacceptable that a couple that works for seven years and pays income taxes does not have 70 credit points, while someone who marries at 18 and has three children by 25 has 70 credit points. The criteria must be changed."

Liberman wants the planning reform and the affordable housing criteria to be submitted to the cabinet, removing decision-making authority on the issue from Atias and Minister of Finance Yuval Steinitz.
