Lifeguard strike ends after deal struck

Six weeks into the summer beach season, Israel's lifeguards will return to a full-time schedule after the Histadrut Labor Federation and Finance Ministry struck a deal on labor conditions Thursday.
The lifeguards had been on a partial strike, packing up and going home at 2 p.m. every day since the swim season opened, in protest of a tiered wage system that they said left new lifeguards in the dust.Under the terms of the deal, however, their duties would also expand. Lifeguards will now patrol Israel's swimming beaches for eight months of the year instead of just six.
The lifeguards will return to their full hours starting Friday.
