Likud convention to be set for March 22

The Likud is expected to set a March 22 date for its first party convention in over a decade in upcoming days, party officials said Tuesday.
The Likud wants to hold the convention ahead of the March 27 election in Kadima. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced that he will face off for the convention chairmanship against Minister-without-portfolio Michael Eitan and MK Danny Danon.
But Likud central committee members said Tuesday that party bylaws prevented the head of the party from running for the post and that they would challenge Netanyahu's candidacy in internal party courts.
