Likud votes to advance primaries; Haim Katz to head central committee

The next election for head of Likud will be held on February 23 after the Likud central committee voted Tuesday to approve Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's proposal to move up the primary.
Netanyahu is unlikely to face any competition in the race.
The new head of the Likud central committee, who was elected Tuesday, is Social Welfare Minister Haim Katz, who defeated MK Tzachi Hanegbi by some 200 votes. MK David Amsalem finished third and MK Yaron Mazuz fourth.
Katz replaces current ambassador to the UN Danny Danon in the role.
