During a tour of the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, opposition leader Tzipi Livni said she hopes the government becomes more involved in the public health care system.
"I hope the government begins to understand that it must be more involved - not empathetic - with the budgets" of hospitals.
Livni continued, "Today we need to do more listening. The case of the hospital in Ashdod is a classic case of political sickness," blaming the government for what she called an injustice caused by political pressures.
The opposition leader was also the focus of harsh criticism on Wednesday from leaders of the Ashkelon protest encampment. Tent protesters said that Livni, as a former senior government official, had no shortage of opportunities to change the situation. "Everyone who has held senior positions in recent years or has been in power is responsible for the tough situation [today]," protesters said.
