Meretz: Transport should run on Shabbat

Meretz MK Nitzan Horowitz has spoken out against "religious coercion" within the Ministry of Transport on Saturday, saying that public transportation is a "vital service" that should run on weekends as an issue of freedom of movement for those who do not own a car.
A Meretz City Council initiative has petitioned the Ministry of Transport to promote public transport on weekends. Horowitz said: "The Ministry of Transport should be free from religious coercion and allow regular public transportation on weekends."
So far, the petition is pending awaiting response from the Ministry.
Meanwhile, Meretz MK's are expected to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on Sunday in Ramallah.
