MKs to be screened for cancers

Screening for malignant growths in the mouths and throats of MKs and Knesset employees will be carried out free in the Knesset on Monday between 9 and 3 by ear-nose-and-throat specialists from Hadassah-University Medical Center in Jerusalem’s Ein Kerem.
Overuse of the vocal cords and smoking can cause malignancies in the mouth. One former MK, former tourism minister Benny Elon, had cancer of the vocal cords and was treated for it.
Cancers inside the mouth affect hundreds each year, but people in some professions such as teachers and other heavy talkers, as well as tobacco users, are at higher risk. Early diagnosis can mean the difference between recovery and complications an death.
