Netanyahu pours cold water on UN peace initiative, proposes direct negotiations

Saying that the international body "will never dictate our security", Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that "the road to peace runs through Jerusalem and Ramallah, not New York."
"I am ready to negotiate all final status issues," he said. "But the one thing I will never negotiate is our right to the one Jewish state," he continued, to lasting applause from the floor.
Attacking PA President Mahmoud Abbas over his threatening the United Kingdom over the Balfour Declaration 100 years ago, Netanyahu ridiculed the Palestinians. "You're not laughing?" he asked the plenum floor, "This is taken seriously here?"
"Why not sue Cyrus for his declaration that the Jewish people could return from exile 2,500 years ago?" he asked.
"I predict that a decade from now, an Israeli prime minister will stand here and applaud the UN," he said. "The sooner the UN obsession with Israel ends, ladies and gentleman, the better for your countries."
