New speed cameras to be rolled out on Israeli roads

The Transportation Ministry announced over the weekend that dozens of new cameras tracking and ticketing speeding drivers will be activated on January 1. In addition to the newly installed digital cameras, those already installed at intersections have been equipped to track drivers' speed as well as red-light violations, constituting a significant increase in the number of digital devices being used to issue traffic citations.
Also at the start of the year, a new system for accumulating points on drivers' driving records will be implemented. A driver who accumulates 72 points over a span of six years will have their license suspended for nine months under the new system. The Transportation Ministry said it expected the changes to result in an increase of the number of traffic citations and subsequent points issued to Israel drivers, Army Radio reported.
