PA welcomes German upgrade of Palestinian delegation status

The Palestinian Authority Thursday welcomed Germany's decision to upgrade the status of the Palestinian delegation in Berlin to a diplomatic mission headed by an ambassador.
German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, who visited Ramallah Wednesday, informed PA President Mahmoud Abbas of the decision to upgrade the status of the Palestinian delegation in Berlin.
PA Foreign Minister Riad Malki welcomed the decision which, he added, was taken a while ago but was delayed until the German foreign minister's visit to Ramallah.
Abbas also expressed his gratitude to the German government for upgrading the status of the delegation in Berlin and providing $11 million in aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees.
The Palestinians have 65 embassies and another 29 delegation offices around the world.
