Palestinian groups: Barak admits defeat with resignation

Several Palestinian groups responded to Ehud Barak's announcement on Monday that he is to retire from politics following the upcoming January 22 election, saying his resignation indicates on Israel's defeat in the latest Gaza operation.

Sama news website cited Hamas Spokesman Fawzi Barhoum as saying that Barak's resignation "is an endorsement of the occupying regime's defeat in materializing its objectives."

Similar comments were made by the Islamic Jihad and the Palestinian Popular Resistance Committees, according to Iranian news agency Fars.
