Plainclothes attackers kill, injure Cairo protesters

Men in plainclothes attacked protesters demonstrating against the barring of a presidential candidate and the continued rule of the army in Cairo early Wednesday, killing one and leaving dozens injured.
Witnesses indicated that a number of protesters were shot with live ammunition and subsequently moved to hospitals. A medic on the scene said that many were in critical condition and that he expected some would die of their wounds.
Demonstrators protested near the ministry of defense for a fourth consecutive day to emphasize their anger that the electoral commission disqualified Islamist candidate Hazem Abu Ismael. The presidential race is scheduled to start on May 23.
