'Progress' reported in mediation of doctors' dispute

In the first bit of good news in the hospital residents conflict with their employers, the mediation by Prof. Yitzhak Zamir and Prof. Mordehai Mironi was progressing on its second day, according to those involved on Thursday. The sides were "optimistic" after a discussion to resolve the issue of weekend and night shifts and "invested creative thinking and proposed various models" so solve it.
The discussion will continue separately by the employers on Saturday night and then be renewed with the residents on Sunday morning. The sessions, which at the initiative of the High Court of Justice will continue for almost another two weeks, will be held daily.
Zamir, a former Supreme Court justice, and Mironi of the University of Haifa Law Faculty, said they were optimistic and that talks were being carried out positively and satisfactorily. During the previous three months of direct talks between the young doctors and the Treasury, there were only threats, walkouts and anger.
