Report: 10,000 Israeli-Arabs married to Palestinians

At least 10,000 Israel-Arabs married to Palestinians requested citizenship for their spouses and children but had their requests frozen in 2003 when the government passed an amendment to the citizenship law, Israel Radio reported Thursday.
An additional 8,000 requests have been submitted in addition to the Israeli-Arab requests, according to the report. The requests, in total, cover some 70,000 Palestinian spouses and children waiting to be united with their families in Israel.
The figures were released after the High Court of Justice Thursday rejected a petition that sought to cancel the amendment to the citizen law, which restricts granting automatic Israeli citizenship and residency permits to spouses of Israeli citizens.
