Report: Assad contemplating retreat from Danascus

Syrian President Bashar Assad is contemplating a retreat from Damascus in order to make a final stand in an Alwaite stronghold along the Mediterranean, The Sunday Times reported.
The Sunday Times quoted a Russian source as saying that Assad and his inner circle were preparing for a "worst case" scenario which would see the Syrian leader abandon the capital and "fight to his last bullet" in a breakaway Alawite enclave.
The source reportedly said that Assad’s army would be able to fight on for months with the help of a sympathetic local population if he were to relocate to the mountainous terrain on the shores of the sea.
The Sunday Times cited an unconfirmed report suggesting Assad may already have moved members of his family to the coastal territory, where they were being guarded by loyal special forces.
