The Taliban’s Afghan military commander has been captured in a raid the Pakistani capital, the New York Times reported on Monday, citing US government officials.
According to the report, the commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is one of the most high-ranking members of the Taliban and possibly the allied forces’ most important capture since the outset of the war in the region.
Baradar is said to rank second only to the organization’s founder, Mullah Muhammad Omar. He was reportedly captured several days ago and subsequently held in Pakistani custody.
