Rivlin to Knesset c'tee: Don't speed up legislation at expense of procedure

Knesset Speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud) made a surprise appearance at the Knesset's House Committee Tuesday noon, in light of a letter he received from opposition factions, and asked Coalition Chairman MK Ze'ev Elkin (Likud) to reverse his intent to make use of a clause that allows faster legislation by limiting the number of objections that may be presented for a bill. "I beg and ask the committee chairman - [this clause] prevents MKs from performing their duties...I submit my request before this honorable committee and its chairman - allow the MKs to submit all of the objections they would be allowed in any other instance."
