Russia opposes Syria intervention, new UN action

MOSCOW - Russia is categorically opposed to military intervention in Syria and believes it would be premature for the UN Security Council to consider new measures on the crisis there at this point, the Interfax news agency cited Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov as saying on Wednesday.
French President Francois Hollande said on Tuesday that military intervention was not ruled out provided it would be carried out under a Security Council resolution, and Germany's foreign minister said his country would push for "new engagement" by the council on the situation in Syria.
