Security Council set to reconvene on Libya sanctions

The United Nations Security Council was set to reconvene on Saturday after a draft resolution circulated Friday called for an International Criminal Court investigation into possible crimes against humanity, sanctions against Libya, a travel ban against its leaders and for their assets to be frozen.

Under pressure from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to take "concrete action" to protect civilians, the council decided to meet again Saturday to discuss options. Brazil's UN Ambassador Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, the current council president, said "there is a possibility" a sanctions resolution could be adopted.
