Settlers request IDF teach them to use weapons

Following the murder of five family members in the Itamar settlement while sleeping, more than fifty women and youths from the Alon Moreh settlement, near Nablus, have asked the IDF to teach them to use weapons for self-defense against vandals and terrorists, Army Radio reported Thursday.

According to the settlers, their intention is not conglomerated a fighting unit, rather gaining knowledge on weapons assembly and usage and practicing self defense. They have said that security forces in the settlements do not provide enough protection against potential criminal activity.

The request, the likes of which has not been raised since the last Intifada broke out, is being examined by IDF officials.
