Shas's Deri attacks Amsalem for failing to serve in IDF

Shas's Aryeh Deri on Wednesday attacked political rival MK Haim Amsalem, who heads the Am Shalem party, for failing to serve in the IDF.

"Out of all of the Shas MKs, I am the only jobnik (person who served in a non-combat unit,)" Deri said. "I, and perhaps Ariel Attias... The rest of the Shas MKs served a full service, and some signed on for extra service, and there are even some who were injured during their service. The only who hasn't served in the IDF is former Shas MK Amasalem."

The attack marks a break from regular party politics, as Shas has sponsored legislation allowing haredim to dodge IDF service, while Amsalem has been vocal about integrating the ultra-Orthodox community into IDF and civilian service.
