Shots fired at IDF forces on Gaza border

Maariv journalist Tal Lev Ram explained on 103FM that this is part of an ongoing process along the border.

Twice on Wednesday, the IDF responded to shots from Gaza near the border by striking Hamas guard posts.
After shots were first fired from Gaza around 12 p.m. towards IDF engineering equipment, the IDF responded by striking a Hamas guard post.
Shortly after, shots were fired again, and the IDF responded by striking two Hamas guard posts.
The shots were directed at IDF operations on the Gaza-Israel border near Kibbutz Kissufim, Maariv, the sister publication of The Jerusalem Post, reported.
According to the report, no injuries were sustained.
Maariv journalist Tal Lev Ram explained on 103FM that this is part of an ongoing process along the border. Parallel to the border, there is a 100-meter area from the fence that is supposed to be clean (from any agriculture) and visible  to the IDF.
"I can't get into the mind of a sniper in Gaza, I can only say that an event like this is no coincidence," Lev Ram said.
This specific event is part of a larger IDF project, operating "under the radar" to secure the 100-meter stretch, or "security perimeter."
"Meaning, the IDF sends leaflets, in Hebrew and in Arabic, telling [the Palestinians on the other side] 'We see you inching towards the security perimeter, please take your tools out of the area, we are going to conduct operations there and clean out the field.' The IDF operates this way, which indicates that this was not a coincidence.
"When an incident like this happens near the border fence - I would assume it's Hamas - it's about control over this security perimeter around the fence," he said.
Lev Ram added that the fact that these two shots were shot intentionally and within a short span of time indicates that the shooter was sophisticated, not a random individual.
