An IDF soldier was indicted Wednesday on suspicion of attacking Bil'in Village Council Secretary Mohammed Khatib. Khatib is active in the weekly protests against the security barrier that cuts through village land. The alleged incident occurred on September 15 after soldiers raided the home of Abdullah Abu Rahma, the coordinator of the Bil'in Popular Committee against the Wall. Khatib had gone to Abu Rahma's house when the alleged beating took place. In a separate affair, the state prosecution informed Yesh Din that it supported a recommendation to press disciplinary charges against border police officers who allegedly assaulted and humiliated Palestinians in east Jerusalem. The prosecution rejected Yesh Din's demand to press criminal charges against the police officers. An attorney for the state explained that the alleged blows had been "extremely light and did not cause any serious damage."
