National Student Union chair Itzhik Shmueli accused Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's government on Saturday of fooling the public with an affordable housing plan critics say favor haredi (ultra-Orthodox) citizens.
"Housing Minister [Ariel Attias] has long forgotten that he is minister to the entire society of Israel, and not just specific parts of it," Shmueli said in a written statement.Attias's controversial program removed an element of the plan originally drafted by the government-mandated Trajtenberg Committee, which had employment or the active pursuit of employment as a proviso for receiving government-subsidized housing.
Itzhik threatened further student protests if the government did not "give a real answer to the issues raised by the protest movement, and specifically affordable housing."
"The prime minister's silence actually agrees with the sale of the middle class," Shmueli said.
