Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem on Tuesday stressed that Damascus considers Turkey to be an unbiased mediator in peace talks, but that the current Israeli government is not an appropriate partner for negotiations. "We believe in Turkey as an unbiased mediator in direct peace talks, but we are not finding an Israeli partner, and the steps taken by Israel don't strengthen our conviction," Moallem said after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu in the Syrian capital. "When it comes to Turkey's role in the peace negotiations, [Syrian President] Bashar Assad clarified Syria's position in Paris," Moallem added.
