Syrian forces arrest two Kurdish opposition figures

AMMAN - Syrian security forces have arrested two opposition figures who had called for pro-democracy demonstrations in the eastern city of Qamishli, a Kurdish source said on Sunday.
Abdel Qader al-Khaznawi and Abdel Samad Ali played a role in the protests, which have intensified in the region after President Bashar Assad sent tanks six days ago to crush an uprising against his authoritarian rule in the southern Arab city of Deraa, the source added.
The Syrian Observatory for Human rights confirmed that Khaznawi and Ali were arrested in Qamishli on Saturday.
