Two desalination plants to be built in Sorek area

The National Infrastructures Planning Committee at the Interior Ministryon Monday approved the plan to build two desalination plants in the Sorek area.
The two 150-million-cubic-meter-per-year plants would be some of the biggestreverse osmosis plants in the world.

The plants were approved in line with a government decision to produce750 mcm of water via desalination by 2020. 750 millioncubic meters is equivalent to household use today, though that number isexpected to rise somewhat by 2020.

Plants have already been built in Ashkelon, Palmahim and Holon, whileanother plant is planned for Ashdod.
