UK calls on Hamas to stop rocket attacks

UK Foreign Office Minister for the Middle East Alistair Burt expressed "grave concern" over civilian deaths in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Gaza during a Monday visit to Israel, and called on Hamas to end rocket attacks.

“The UK calls on Hamas, who bear principal responsibility for starting this round of violence, to stop the rocket attacks. Doing so would bring the violence most quickly to an end," Burt said.

Israel also had responsibilities, he said. "As the number of casualties in Gaza increases, we continue to urge Israel to do all it can to de-escalate the situation."

Tomorrow, Burt will beet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
