UN Security Council to meet on N.Korea launch
UNITED NATIONS - The UN Security Council met on North Korea@@@s rocket launch on Wednesday, a move Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon condemned as a "provocative act" in breach of resolutions banning Pyongyang from developing ballistic missiles.Several council diplomats said they hoped the 15-nation body could swiftly agree a similar condemnation and later consider a binding resolution, possibly expanding already existing UN sanctions against Pyongyang."Clearly the Security Council will need to react and react strongly," a senior Western diplomat said on condition of anonymity. He said the United States, Europe, Japan and South Korea were among those who would like to see expanded sanctions. They could include adding more entities to the UN blacklist, banning travel and freezing assets of individual North Korean officials and tightening the cargo inspection regime.ByREUTERS06/08/2025 07:57 AMByREUTERS06/08/2025 05:36 AMByMAARIV06/07/2025 02:33 PMByWALLA!06/07/2025 11:18 AMByREUTERS06/07/2025 03:25 AM
