UNHCR: At least 40 Iraqis sent home from Europe

BAGHDAD — The UN refugee agency says at least 40 Iraqis who failed to gain asylum in several European countries are being returned to Iraq despite concerns the situation is still too dangerous.
UNHCR spokeswoman Sybella Wilkes says a plane carrying 27 Iraqi deportees from Sweden, nine from Norway, four from the Netherlands and an unknown number from the United Kingdom has left Stockholm. It's scheduled to land in Baghdad on Wednesday afternoon.
Security has dramatically improved in the past years in Iraq, but UNHCR has urged governments not to force Iraqis to return, citing continued attacks and human rights violations in Baghdad and surrounding areas.
About 2 million people fled Iraq after the 2003 US-led invasion. Most live without permanent homes in neighboring Syria and Jordan.
