UNSC set to discuss draft resolution on Syria

The United Nations Security Council has set out to discuss a draft resolution on the situation in Syria, Al Arabiya reported Wednesday.
Four of the councils members, France, Britain, Portugal, and Germany, have circulated a draft resolution that would condemn the regime led by Syrian President Bashar Assad for killing and torturing peaceful protesters and would demand an immediate cessation of violence.
Despite opposition from veto-wielding Russia, French Foreign Minster Alain Juppe said that supporters of the bill are waiting for a large enough majority in  the 15-member council before bringing the resolution to a vote, adding that he believed the issue would be acted upon within days or even hours.
