Monday, January 29 The Institute for National Security Studies will hold a symposium on the feasibility of renewing negotiations with Syria. The symposium will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Ettinger Hall of the Gilman building on the Tel Aviv University campus. The Israeli Society for Assyriology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies in cooperation with the Department of Bible, Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Studies and the Department of Hebrew Language, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev invites you to its Tenth Annual Conference. Tuesday, January 30 Prof. Robert Rockaway, in his series on Famous Anti-Semitic Trials under the auspices of Friends of Tel Aviv University, will discuss the trials of Alfred Dreyfus, Mendel Bellis and Leo Frank that took place in France, Russia and the US, respectively. The lecture will be held at 6 p.m. in the School for Social Work on the TAU Campus, room 127. A lecture given by NASA astronaut Joseph R. Tanner following the Dedication Ceremony at 10:45 a.m. of the Ilan Ramon Youth Physics Center in the Sacta-Rashi Building for Physics, BGU Marcus Family Campus, Beersheba in the presence of Rona Ramon and family. Other participants include: Prof. Rivka Carmi, BGU President; Yaacov Terner, mayor of Beersheba; Eli Elalouf, director general and executive vice-president, Sacta-Rashi Foundation; and NASA representatives. Thursday, February 1 A conference of professional psychologists will discuss ways of coping with aggressive behavior at the Shenkar College School for Engineering and Design. The conference will commence at 9:30 a.m. in the Lorber Auditorium of the Mitchell Building on the Shenkar College campus. A seminar on Israeli security 1943-2006 with particular focus on the first decade and the Sinai Campaign, will be held under the auspices of Yad Tabenkin and the Israeli Military Historical Society at Ramat Efal. Friday, February 2 The Interfaith Encounter Association (IEA) is hosting a two-day retreat in Nes Amim on the theme of environmental care in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim traditions. The retreat is partially subsidized by Nes Amim. Participants will have the chance to meet other IEA people from around the country and engage in non-political interfaith discussions designed to help enhance each person's knowledge of "the other" in his/her humanity, and thereby make a substantial contribution to true coexistence of the three faiths that share the Holy Land. Monday, February 5 "Global Reproductive Health in Conflict Areas: Development, Donors and the Spaces in Between," is the title of a lecture by Sera Bonds, MPH, a visiting public health scholar in the Women's Health Studies and Promotion. The lecture at Ben-Gurion University, will begin at 1:30 p.m. in Conference Room 203, 2nd Floor Spitzer-Salany Building of the Department for Social Work. (Building No. 17). The Iranian Nuclear Threat is the subject of a symposium to be held in the Bar Shira Auditorium on the Tel Aviv University Campus from 9:15 a .m. One of the sessions will be devoted to how to deal with the threat. Israeli Elitism, which came under attack in President Katsav's emotional outburst last week, is the subject of a symposium to be held at Tel Aviv University from 10 a.m. Lectures include: From Social pluralism to elitist pluralism; The electoral system in Israel and its influence on maintaining political elitism; Israeli dissatisfaction with the folklore culture of The Other Israel. The two-day symposium begins at 10 a.m. in Room 496 of the Gilman Building on the TAU campus. Thursday, February 8 A symposium on "Nature Preservation vs the Budgets of Millionaire Real Estate Developers" will be held at Tel Aviv University with the participation of Interior Minister Roni Bar On. The symposium is under the auspices of the Porter School for Environmental Sciences, and will deal with issues such as limitations on real estate development and the destruction of nature; clean energy; railroad development and its effect on nature; and whether quality of the environment poses a political obstruction.
