Sunday, April 15 * NEW FINDINGS that will help towards a better understanding of Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD) will be discussed at a symposium organized by the Department of Psychology of Tel Aviv University's Faculty of Social Sciences, beginning at 8:45 a.m. in the Bar Shira Auditorium on the TAU campus. For further details, call (03) 640-6389. * THE NETVISION Institute for Internet Research will host a Holocaust Memorial Day Seminar on "The Holocaust from the Perspective of Israeli Bloggers." The intergenerational participants will include Holocaust survivors as well as second and third generation survivors, academics and journalists. Discussions begin at 3 p.m. in Room 407 of the Recanati Building on the TAU campus. * FOLLOWING THE official Holocaust Memorial Ceremony at Yad Vashem, there will be a seminar in the Yad Vashem auditorium commencing at 10 p.m. Based on the time honored Jewish injunction "And You Shall Tell Your Children" the seminar will focus on "The Story of the Shoah Between History and Remembrance." The moderator will be Ehud Graf, with the participation of Prof. Yehuda Bauer, Rabbi Dr. Benny Lau, the poetess Agi Mishol, Ronal Fisher, Adv. and Yad Vashem chairman Avner Shalev. Monday, April 16 * KISUFIM, THE four-day Jerusalem Conference of Jewish Writers and Poets, will be held at Beit Avi Chai, 44 King George Street, (corner Keren Kayemet) Jerusalem. The conference will deal with Holocaust writings - those gleaned from memory and those fueled by imagination; Jewish identity in literature; the voice of the individual; wandering Jews and their languages of expression; the place of intellectuals in society; the presence of myths in literature; who is a Jewish writer and other related subjects. Participants will include well-known writers from Israel and abroad. There will be ample opportunities during discussion periods for audience participation. In addition to discussions there will be readings of Jewish works and specific discussion on those of Nobel Prize Laureate Shai (Shmuel Yosef ) Agnon. Admission is free of charge. Tuesday, April 17 * THE JERUSALEM Institute for Israel Studies will host the Lisa Goldberg Memorial Conference on Jerusalem - "The Challenge: Are there options for settling the question of Jerusalem?" Presentations will be made by legal, diplomatic, academic and political experts including Palestinian researcher Dr. Nazmi Jube. * THE ROTHSCHILD-Caesarea School for Communications, the Chaim Herzog Institute for Communication, Society and Politics and the Chaim Herzog Center at Ben-Gurion University will host a memorial symposium at Tel Aviv University to mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of Israel's sixth president. The topic to be discussed by academics and veteran journalist Rafik Halabi is: "The image of Arabs and Muslims as portrayed by the Israeli media." The discussion on the TAU campus will begin at 5 p.m. * TEL AVIV Mayor Ron Hulda'i will be the final speaker in the day-long Yuval Neeman Tel Aviv workshop on Science Technology and Security. The overall topic for discussion in the workshop is Ballistic Missiles and Rockets. Hulda'i will discuss the threat from the perspective of the population. The workshop begins at 8.30 a.m. on the campus of TAU. * THE ISRAEL Project together with the Truman Institute will hold a day-long conference on Iran, Hizbullah and Hamas in which speakers will explore Iran's global outreach as well as its impact on Hamas and the Palestinian Future. Participants will also discuss whether Hizbullah is an independent or an Iranian organization, and will present an in-depth look at global terrorism. The event begins at 8 a.m. in the Truman Institute;s Handler Auditorium on the Hebrew University's Mount Scopus campus. * THE UNION of Local Authorities together with the Union of Regional Councils and the South Sharon Council will host a half-day symposium, beginning at 8.15 a.m. on compensation with regard to damage to lands and the impact on Israel's development. The conference is based on Article 197 of the Public Planning and Construction Law. The symposium was spurred by the number of complaints lodged with local planning committees and institutions in relation to article 197 and deals with the question as to how these committees and institutions function, and their abilities to compensate those people who suffer losses or major inconvenience as a result of public construction and possible land appropriation. In essence, the symposium will weigh the rights of the individual against the needs to develop the country. The speaker-list at the conference is top-heavy with lawyers including Interior Minister Roni Bar-On who will speak at the opening session. Other participating ministers include Housing and Construction Minister Meir Sheetrit and National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer. Participation fee is NIS 150. The purpose of the series that was organized by Prof. Jon. Anson and Dr. Achmed Saadi, is to provide an opportunity for listening to and entering into discussions with Israel's Palestinian citizens, many of whom are high achievers in their respective fields. The organizers believe that it is important to learn how the very fact that they are Israeli Palestinians has influenced and shaped their lives. Among the participants in the third meeting will be Salman Natour, editor of Madar, an Arabic language journal published by the Palestinian Forum for Israeli Studies in Ramallah and Director of the Emil Tuma Institute for Israeli and Palestinian Studies in Haifa.
